From hive to home
Native Beeings Propolis seamlessly blends with your everyday routine, serving as a multi-functional protector for the skin, body and immune system. The high level antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of native bee propolis provides powerful all-round support for the natural health of your whole family.
Our hives in Redland Bay Nature Parks, in Queensland Australia, provide the bees access to a rich and diverse nutritional base, free from chemicals and pollution.
Our proprietary innovative extract methods ensure each product is made using natural and raw Australian native bee propolis. The Native Beeings propolis collection process is non-intrusive and sustainable in practice, with minimal human impact on the hives. All Native Beeings products are cultivated direct from our own hives, through to our GMP accredited, state of the art manufacturing laboratory and packing facility.
Our propolis
Propolis, created by the bees from foraged tree resin, bud oils, and plant saps, is a solution that provides the first line of defense for humans, with its antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties making it an all-round complement for natural health.
Propolis is a naturally occurring product of the Australian native bee, produced in small quantities from the diverse Australian bushland. Australian native bees are celebrated for producing concentrated medicinal propolis, who use it as their greatest defense. Bees use propolis to build their structures, sanitise and protect the hive.
Native Beeings products are independently tested to guarantee a high flavonoid and phenolic level. Flavonoids are a diverse group of nutrients found in fruits and vegetables that are rich in antioxidant activity. A high flavonoid level, when present in propolis, indicates that the product has high biological activity (bio-active) and quantifies the effectiveness of propolis for protection and balance.
Our bees
There are over 1,600 native bee species (Apidae Meliponini) in Australia. Native bees are highly effective crop pollinators and play a vital role in pollinating Australia's unique wildflowers and bush land. They also produce a limited amount of stingless bee honey that is a delicious bush food and delicacy.
It has become common knowledge worldwide that bees are under threat due to a variety of contributing factors including viruses, infectious agents, parasites and invasive species, pesticides, GM plants, environmental changes, habitat loss and poor nutrition.
With deforestation rampant many natural native bee colonies are being destroyed. Native Beeings recognises the importance of reintroducing native bees into Australian farmland, natural bush and neighbourhoods. Together with other Australian native bee farmers, Native Beeings are supporting native bee populations in their return to gardens and bushland in Australia - where they are well loved and needed for a healthy bush ecosystem.
Our founders
Native Beeings was born in 2016 following the Visser family’s deep dedication to decades of climate positive and regenerative farming. The Visser family established their own colonies of Australian native bees in Queensland after witnessing the unique, symbiotic relationship of the bees and diverse Australian native flora.
Mariki Visser
CEO and Co-Founder
Mariki shares a passion for beekeeping and sustainability with her husband, Francois Visser. Since the launch of Native Beeings in 2016, Mariki has been able to expand Native Beeings to share their Australian native bee propolis internationally, being the world’s first all-natural, therapeutic product derived from Australian native bee propolis.
Mariki and Francois first discovered their interest in native bee propolis by engaging with other Australian experts. The unique, symbiotic relationship between Australian flora and the native bees inspired them to create products that allowed both to flourish in their natural environment. Mariki and Francois have achieved this by restoring Australian native bees to bushlands and rainforests. Prior to living in Queensland, they ran an organic farm in South Africa, and more recently, Mariki worked as the executive manager of several Veterinary Teaching Hospitals at the University of Queensland.
Francois Visser
Co-Founder
Dr Francois Visser has a Masters in Commerce, a Masters in Business Administration, and a PhD in Environmental Science/Sustainable Agriculture. He is recognised nationally and internationally in the field and has been invited to speak at international beekeeping conferences. Francois and Mariki, are proud to have developed a completely non-intrusive and sustainable method for harvesting small amounts of propolis from the Native Bees. Francois is also the Founder and CEO of Carbon Friendly, providing a service that assesses the carbon footprint of crops and farming systems to support farmers on their sustainability journey.
